Big News! The new book, Facing the Coming Storm: A Common Sense Survival Guide for 2009, is now available! In these times of financial and political turmoil, are you looking for a way to make a difference? Facing the Coming Storm is a review of the financial crisis of 2008, a consideration of the social and political influences that led us to the point of incessant government bailouts and stimulus packages, and looks to the future to consider what we might do in the face of even more drastic economic circumstances that are gathering like storm clouds on the horizon. In three sections (Rediscover Your American Vocabulary, Review So We Don't Re-Do, and Reclaim Our Vision) author Eric Sheridan Wyatt considers the social and economic frustration of the last few years while offering a framework for planning for the future.
Something is wrong here; terribly wrong... From the Introduction: Yelling “Fix it!” over and over captures the frustration of people I've talked to, and most of us struggle to find words to express what it is we want done. We've lost something of our national vocabulary, and we are struggling to do more than stammer, stutter, and yell “FIX IT” at the top of our lungs.Something is wrong here; terribly wrong. You know it as well as I do. Maybe we can't explain it, but that doesn't mean it isn't real. There is an overwhelming unease, and those we are looking to for answers seem either completely self-interested or unbelievably inept. It is clear that our elected leadership – Republican and Democrat alike – has no reasonable concept of how to “FIX IT” and by-golly, if the brilliant minds in Washington can't get this under control, what's a simple-minded guy like me to do?When we think this way, we have bought into the impersonal and dehumanizing rhetoric of politicians and special interests. Let me be clear at the outset: I don't believe for a second that the hyper-partisanship of the last decade is an accident. I believe that both sides of the political spectrum are pitting us against each other in a sort-of ideological civil war. Let the corpses of friendships, family relationships, business partnerships, and neighborhood acquaintances pile up, as long as the in-fighting distracts people from the ineptitude in Washington and the metamorphosis of the very fabric of our Republic. The rug is slowly being pulled out from beneath us. As we bicker with each other, they compete to see who can spend more money and amass more power.
